I recently had 2 kids start college a year apart. One went to a top 10 private. Dorm was the worst I’ve ever seen.
Second kid went to a big public ranked around 150. Dorm was beautiful & spotless. Each floor had its own large laundry room & several study areas. Each 4-person suite came with a microwave oven and a newish vacuum cleaner. A weekly cleaning of each suite’s bathroom was included. It’s not the end of the world if kids have to endure shabby accommodations, but why the heck can’t these rich privates at least keep up with the low-ranking publics? (By the way, the kid who attended the low-ranking public is now making a lot more money than their older sibling who went to the big-name private.) |
