I too would love to learn more about this.

The School-wide Enrichment Model (SEM) started this year. All students took an assessment that was designed to learn each student's interests and strengths. The SEM coordinator is working with all teachers to design lessons and provide tools to ignite the specific interests of all students.
In addition to professional development for teachers and expanded learning opportunities for all students inside and outside of the school day, teachers are able to recommend individual students who show higher aptitude in math and language arts to work in small groups with the SEM coordinator during regular class time or lunch. Our DC seems to enjoy the additional time working on projects with academic peers. Though I appreciate the fact that all students are looked at through the lens of their interests not just ability. For those looking for "tracking," this is not it. I, for one, am glad that it's not. I hope other parents will chime in with their impressions/experiences. |

Yes, my child is taking part in several of the School Enrichment Model classes/activities, and I'm glad that the opportunity is there - it is one more excellent example of why Hardy is an excellent, if underrated, school.
For people who are interested in more details on the program, I would recccomend attending an Open House - they Open Houses include lots of information on the program, and you can ask questions directly to the teacher that runs the program. There was supposed to be an Open House yesterday, which was canceled for obvious reasons. I presume it will be rescheduled. The next scheduled Open House is Nov. 27. |
