Buying shoes for a preschooler with wide feet

Anonymous
I got my son some wide Timberland boots at Shoe Train but I am not eager to drive all that way again, wait for a long time, deal with the chaos, etc. Has anyone had luck buying shoes for wide feet online? Zappos has some Stride Rite sneakers in wide but they're $50 and some part of me thinks I'd be better off going all the way to Shoe Train. . . . Sigh.

Personally, I wouldn't buy shoes on line for a toddler unless it was a second pair in a given size. Getting measured by a pro is important. I don't know where shoe train is, but there can't be just one shoe store available to you.

I also think it's hard to buy shoes online for a toddler unless you get him fitted at the store first. My ds also has wide feet (he's 4 now) and we've always had to buy Stride Rite. You can get good deals at the Stride Rite outlet (there's one at the Leesburg Outlets) and at Nordstrom because they actually put them on sale. Good luck!

My DS has XW feet.

We get him measured and buy his everyday shoes from Ramers in DC. I purchase back-up from ebay.

OP here. Thanks. I did just have him fitted at Shoe Train but only got a pair of boots because I didn't realize his preschool had specific shoe requirements. Ramers is closer than Shoe Train, so I can try that and Nordstrom.

I don't know either of the stores mentioned, so you probably aren't near me. But the Stride Rite outlet at Potomac Mills has LOTS of Wide shoes, and they are much cheaper. I just got DS a pair of 11W for $19.99. They even have double wide.

My son is XW. We had him measured at Nordstrom and had them order the shoes while we stood there and waited and they were shipped directly to me and arrived 4 days later. Unfortunately, they didn't carry any XW shoes in stock. It's nice ordering from Nordstrom because you know that if the shoes don't fit, you can just return them to the store instead of having to pack them back up, drive to the post office and ship them back to an online vendor.

if you know sizes, check out shoebuy.com

Once you're on their mailing list they have TONS of sales-last week they had one where if you spent more than $50 and used paypal you got $20 off, and often have 15%-30% off.

Another mom here with a preschooler with very wide feet. Ditto on the Stride Rite outlet suggestions.

Amazon also has good sales on Stride Rite shoes. I, too, get one pair at Ramers and then backups online

Both my kids have W or WW feet. I only go to Shoe Train or Ramers. I just haven't been impressed with Nordstrom - they carry the shoes but they aren't trained to size feet.

The people at Ramers are just as good as those at Shoe Train (unless you need orthotics) and really know which shoes work for each kid. They have steered me away from shoes that are the correct size and width because they aren't good for my kids' foot type.

You can always look at shoes at Stride Rite and have the feet measured correctly and then order the shoes at Amazon.com. We bought a $50 pair of shoes for $25 on sale. They sell wide and Xwide online.

My 15 month old wears a size 8XXW and we have had huge success ordering online.

OP again. Thank you. I would like to try Ramers, as it's a lot closer to me than Shoe Train (and the wait at Shoe Train is sooooo long). Do they have a pretty good stock? As PPs have suggested, I can buy a backup pair online if I can find a good style and fit. I should certainly take him to be fitted again, I think.
