No cleavage at work, right? But what about at a work gala?

Anonymous
I was just invited to attend a fundraising event sponsored by my organization and have to find a dress. I have a large chest (and am plus size) and do my best to keep the girls covered at work. However, for a gala event, I would normally wear something with a lower cut, since V neck is much more flattering on me. So is a little cleavage okay at a gala?

OP here. I wanted to add a little more information that's adding to my concern. My boss is pentecostal and is incredibly conservative in the way she dresses. (and very vocal about her opinions!) I try to respect that at work, but for this type of event I don't want to wear a mother of the bride dress, which is probably what she'll be wearing. I'm going as a guest to the event and not as a representative of our office, so I'd prefer to be able to wear whatever is most flattering on me. Thoughts?

Do you want to be remembered for your cleavage or your conversation?

Your boss will be there, and the event is sponsored by your organization.

Cover up the "gals" and accessorize with something else.

A little cleavage is fine. Pick 3 friends who aren't wild dressers and show them a picture of you in the dress. If they vote yes, then go for it.

OP here. I wasn't planning on wearing a plunging neckline. I'm talking a regular V neck.

I would go for it. It doesn't sound like it would be inappropriate for this type of event. If you put it on and its a bit low, hollywood fashion tape can be found at cvs. I also like the idea of showing it to a couple friends and get their take. You're penty respectful of your boss at work. It isn't like this is a fundraiser for her church. I think just the fact that you're asking this question means that you wouldn't wear anything inappropriate.

A regular V neck doesn't show any cleavage on me. Does it on you?

do you want to/ should you look professional or not?

If yes, skip the cleavage. This isn't that hard a question.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a very short torso and my cleavage starts about four inches under my neck. I think I'm going to try to find something tasteful that's still flattering. I agree that I want to look professional for the event. I appreciate the perspective.

I would do as the boss does. Sorry. It sounds like she's stuffy, but I would keep the girls entirely covered if that's what she's doing. Maybe you can find a suitable cami to go under something more revealing? If you wear something that matches your skin tone you can get the illusion of a more flattering neckline without actually showing anything.

Maybe something with lace or gauze in the neckline, so there is coverage but you still get that v-neck effect?

OP, i think you shoudl post some pics so we can better judge the situation. Can you do something in red please?

Keep them covered OP. This is a work sponsored event and you have a conservative boss. Come on. You know the answer to this.

OP, you answered your own question.

Plus, what are you hoping to gain from showing off your breasts? Are you single?
