options for inexpensive, one-level living?

| We may need to move my parents to the DC area. Unfortunately, they don't have a lot of resources. Any suggestions for one-level living, but perhaps with a basement for storage, that is as inexpensive as this area can be? They'd prefer a 'countrified' setting, but they also can't be that isolated. Thanks so much for any suggestions. |

lots of 55 and greater places around here.
define "limited resources." Are we talking spend down to Medicaid here? Assisted living? |

I'm in the same situation. However, my mother would be more comfortable about an hour + away from the metro area. However, I do want to show her options closer in. She has SS & a modest pension. Has a decent amount saved and can sell her current home. She drives, shops, cleans, etc. Slower these days though.
