Charlie Rangel is a disgrace. He should resign his chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee. |
agreed |
I don't really know the details, but you're probably right. Time for him to go.
|
Poetic justice. Rangel replaced Adam Clayton Powell, who got into trouble living high. |
What did Adam Clayton Powell leave him the position in his will? I don't get the connection. |
He defeated Powell in the primary. Rangel was the young reformer! |
Ohhhh, thanks for explaining that! It makes sense now. Before I just thought you were nuts! But, let me ask this -- I have not followed this closely but what I did read in the WaPo made it sound like Rangel's problem with this property in the Caribbean were the kind of problems someone who is sloppy about their taxes and paperwork could have gotten into. Sloppy, maybe culpable of corruption, maybe not. Whereas the impression I have about Powell is that he was much worse. (although granted I know even less about Powell) So you folks who are more familiar with Rangel -- was he really that bad? Is this a case of someone who pleads ignorance but really did know what he was doing? Enlighten us! |
|
You know I am pretty conservative but I think everyone needs to take a breath on Rangel--so what he screwed up on a tax deduction and the car issue is silly. I care more about his liberal stance but throwing him out for these kinds of reasons are dumb--let his voting precinct decide if they had enough rather than wasting time and money investigating him. |
His latest stupid act is calling Palin "disabled." He's just a complete moron and embarrassment.

My understanding from an article I read was that Rangel owns the house in the Dom. Rep. with a group of other investors and it looks like they didn't understand some local tax laws. |
Nothing to do with local tax laws, he did not report his rental income on his taxes. |
Excuse me. He is on the commitee that writes tax laws, and he didn't know about his taxable property? |
Looks like he is back in the hot seat?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/14/AR2009091402706.html "Rangel recently even discovered bank accounts that no one in the world, apparently including him, knew he had. One was with the Congressional Federal Credit Union; another was with Merrill Lynch -- each valued between $250,000 and $500,000. He somehow neglected to mention these accounts on his congressional disclosure forms, which means, if you can believe it, that when he signed the forms, he did not notice that maybe $1 million was missing. Someone ought to check the lighting in his office. " |
Come on be honest. Who among us has not misplaced a million dollars? If I had a million dollars for every time I misplaced a million dollars -- well, I would break even. Still, this guy has important things to worry about. He can't be expected to keep track of a measly million dollars. Seriously, both this guy and Murtha have go to go. They are dragging down the Democratic party. No excuses. They've go to go. |
