| We have a Hyundai Santa Fe to truck all the kid gear around (2 kids), and now need a second car. Ballpark budget is 30k. I'd like it to be fun but modest, a 5-speed manual transmission, with a little personality. Can't find anything (new or used) that ticks all the boxes, but was thinking a VW Passat. What do you think? |
| Passat is what came to mind. I think there's a TDI version available in the U.S. now too, which would add another element of fun. |
| How good for kids does it have to be? Would a 2-door do, like the Hyundai Veloster? That is a cool car. |
| 11:54 here, to correct myself: the Veloster is technically a 3-door, as it has a hidden rear door on the right. I think it it definitely hits the categories of fun, modest, and personality, and as a fellow stick-shift driver, I sincerely hope it comes with a manual transmission. |
| The little Audi four door... |
| I just got a VW Golf TDI - diesel, 6-speed manual. I LOVE it. And I'm getting 30 mpg in the city, most days. |
| Hyundai Genesis |
|
Mini Cooper! It depends on the size of the family though.
|
| How about a Chevy Volt? Fun, sporty, and ecofriendly. |
| Chevy Volt = underpowered, underpowered, and underpowered. You can do better, especially with what you've budgeted! |
Our planet is doomed... |
| I love my Mini Cooper Clubman five speed turbo manual. The Clubman is a bit bigger in the backseat and storage than the regular Mini. It feels sporty and fun, but is big enough to take the kids in when necessary and throw a few groceries in the back. |
|
| I would get a volt too. Or an audi- I love those! |
| VW Eos. Hard top convertible with enough room in backseat (unlike Mini Cooper) for kids in back seat. Love it! |
