Deoderant for boys

Anonymous
My son’s fourth grade teacher wants the boys to wear deodorant (or antiperspirant…I’m actually not sure). Does that seem too early to anyone else? He smells like a daisy to me.

That's odd. They do not develop BO until puberty.

Weird. Does she make other seemingly inappropriate requests? This seems like a pretty personal issue to be handled by each child's parent(s).

I have 4 boys and yes, they could use deodorant by 4th grade. One very active DS needed it in 3rd.

Do any stores sell organic deodorant (that's a serious question, actually)?

I teach 4th grade. Your boys may smell like daisies in the morning, but after recess or P.E. class, the smell of daisies is long gone. We frequently need to open the windows in the classroom or spray air freshener in the classroom to help with the strong odors after recess. If you are able to volunteer in your child's classroom, try to do so one day immediately following recess.

I don't think I'll volunteer now!

Where did that come from?

My husband uses Tom's of Maine (you can get it in most places these days) and it's pretty darn natural.
