This forum has had a few discussions recently about the issues at Mclean CDS. Have things turned around? Are the new teachers as great as the ones that left? Also, I'm wondering if admission is more competitive for 2s or 3s. Thx. |
Great. New head is fantastic and I've heard positive things about the new teachers. We love our class and teachers.... |
With admissions decisions coming up, I'm hoping other current parents could respond here. |
New head is fabulous. She was a teacher there for years and is doing a great job. New and remaining long-time teachers are wonderful. |
CDS Parent here. We have a few new teachers (including in my kid's class). They are great, as are the ones that have been around forever. New head is great, too. She is out there front and center every day, very involved, and the teachers love her (she used to be one). We couldn't be happier. |
15:40 here. To clarify, I wouldn't call what went down over the last year or so as real "issues." The old head stepped down, but my impression was that the teachers weren't too fond of her. And there was the issue about the transparency of the board. Since then, they have taken on current parents as members of the board and taken some transparency initiatives like financial reporting. None of it in my opinion affected the day to day of the school -- the amazing teachers, beautiful grounds, fantastic early childhood education. |
Old CDS parent here - what happened over the last decade? Who was the last and the new head? Is Wendy Jones still around? |
Wendy is still there. She is a treasure. I think I appreciate her advice more now that I have been gone a few years. She is soooo child first and kind. Love her!! |
any current parents with less than stellar experiences or at least constructive criticism? |
Dorothy mccormick was founder and long time director, thenPat Kinney, then Susanne nichols (i think was her last name) now diane dunn is great. Wendy is still there and wonderful. As is rita olson, becky benton, chris luedke, laurie hallahan and marshall rawson. A wonderful staff of caring teachers and administrators. The board now has current and previous parents. |
Is Dorothy still around? Is she living in the back? Both of our kdis went there . . long time ago. |
23:10 here. Dorothy is still there but I believe she is ill.
I left out mariam is still the art teacher, ms. Shea, ms yakub and ms. Yolanda still teach. Low teacher turn over is a sign of a good preschool. Cds has so many long-time wonderful teachers. |
This is our first year at CDS. After doing extensive research last year on area preschools, we knew there had been some changes at CDS but found that they were improved changes. When visiting the school, we were impressed with the new head (Diane Dunne), the teachers, the curriculum & the nuturing environment for our children's first school experience. We are very happy with our decision to send our twins there - they are thriving & love going to school each day. We are also impressed with the numerous ways parents can be involved with the school & the children's classroom activities. Good luck with your decision! |
Bump- any new feedback? |
Any thoughts on their K program? |
