Occoquan or near - family friendly restaurant?

Anonymous
I am planning a day trip to Mason Neck State Park/Gunston Hall with two preschoolers. Looking for nice family friendly lunch place in or near Occoquan?
The kids like chicken, pasta, fries, pizza, but not big on sandwiches or burgers...Mommy would like some atmosphere and great service. I've been able to eliminate the Pink Bicycle tea room, Electric Palm, Cock & Bowl (based on the reviews and their menus.) Any input on Madigan's, Bistro L'Hermitage, Garden Kitchen, Blue Arbor, Occoquan Inn? Or other places? Maybe the Cedar Knoll at Mount Vernon? Never been. TIA!

I love tripadvisor.com for reviews.

Madigan's overlooks the water and is kid friendly

Dixie Bones BBQ in Woodbridge (northern part near Occoquan, not where the mall is) is very good for families- http://www.dixiebones.com/index.html.

Not an option for a full meal, but the pies at Mom's are great - http://www.momsapplepieco.com/pages/occoquan.

Madigan's is definitely a good bet for a casual kid-friendly place with the menu choices you are looking for. Blue Arbor has terrific food but a small dining space and mostly limited to sandwiches. I would NOT recommend Virginia Inn or Virginia Grill. Bistro L'hermitage is probably more pricey and more dressy than you have in mind for this outing, but they are always very welcoming to children, have delicious food (French menu) and the best, most gracious service anywhere in the DC metro area. Try their Saturday or Sunday brunch when you want a special treat. Enjoy your day!

I'd go with Madigan's or Dixie Bones. Bistro L'Hermitage is fantastic but a bit too dressy for what you are looking for. Had my daughter's baptism lunch at Madigan's. Nice casual atmosphere on the water, good variety in the menu, and kid friendly. Dixie Bones has awesome BBQ! And definitely visit Mom's Apple Pie for an after-lunch treat!
