Frozen breast milk to donate

I have at least a 4 day supply of frozen breast milk that is nearing the 3 month mark, but I just can't bear to throw it away. Does anyone need it or know of someone who could use it? I'd be happy to give it to someone. Feel free to email me personally.

Doesn't breastmilk last 6 months in the freezer?

It's sweet of you to do this, but there's a lot more complications than just giving it away. Because it's a bodily fluid, you'll have to provide test results that you don't have any diseases that can be transmitted through breastmilk.

Actually it's not that hard to donate breast milk to individual families. There is a website Milkshare that connects donors and recipients. The website is http://milkshare.birthingforlife.com/

I've been told the breastmilk does not go bad it just begins to lose nutrients but would still be good for things like mixing with powdered cereal and stuff.

I read an article that there is a restaurant in Switzerland where the owner is using BM instead of regular (cow, goat) milk to make sauces, creams, desserts, etc. He was inspired when he had a newborn and his wife was bfing. He had to add a few ingredients to get the right consistency, but the foods he prepared are apparently very good and, of course, very healthy.

He pays a few bucks (conversion rate?) for 14 oz.

I'll search for the article if you're interested and you could donate to the restaurant owner

Erica, contact your local La Leche League - I believe they help out with milk donations.

Get over yourself - this is the equivalent of a modern day wet nurse and it is one of the most generous things one mom can do for another baby. It is no small endeavor to express breast milk for your child let alone a second.

Erica - I applaud you for being so thoughtful. I hope you find a recipient for your breastmilk.

I am truly puzzled as to why this is YUCK. I think it's a generous thing to donate breastmilk.

Anyway, Erica, try this Yahoo group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MilkShare/

Good luck.
