What's "the district?" (I'm from here).

If the OP means shopping, accounting, and maybe government contracting, then yes, DC is effectively a suburb of Tysons. For tech, DC is a suburb of Herndon perhaps too.

I think it's just talk to get people focused on the number of jobs and the amount of wealth in Tysons, as well as to get current employers to stay in Tysons as it attempts to transform itself into something more urban.

Tysons doesn't need to advertise itself. It's been exploding for the last 10 years and companies having been coming in the droves. I've watched it the last 7 years living here (in Tysons). And all the Connecticut and New York plates all over the place - I'm guessing they took jobs in Tysons due to the recession.

I'm totally looking forward to the silver line going out to Tysons. I haven't been out there in years because the traffic's so bad and once the metro goes out there, I will probably take a day trip and check it out once more.

And then probably not go back.

Tyson's has more jobs. Tysons has taller buildings. Tysons has more affluent households than does the District of Columbia. Tysons is about to get a real, live subway line!

And yet ... Tysons is still stupid and manufactured. It's our own little Gangnam Style thing going on, complete with flashy Koreans buying status bags and driving them home in their E-Class sedans.
