Baking Apples for Toddler

Anonymous
Any suggestions on a recipe to bake down apples for my toddler? He LOVES apples, but only whole, and I'd like to add them to the daycare food mix, but don't want to bake them adult style with sugar, etc. He doesn't chew them enough, so tends to gag, so I thought baking may be the way to go.

buy the tiny apples and peel them. put slits in them b/f you bake them so the break apart easily.

Have you tried cutting them in really thin slices or in big skinless chunks? Both these ways seem to work for my 15 mo th old and she only has a few teeth.
Do you have a toaster oven? I just cut them into 4ths, sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 fir about 20-30 minute, they come out nice and soft and sweet. No need to add sugar

Grate them.

I've been there--my son is almost 3 and I am still really cautious with apples. I slice them wafer-thin and he manages but if I left him unsupervised with apple chunks, he would be chucking up in a heartbeat.

Grating is a great (chuckle) suggestion. Thanks PP!

I microwave slices with a bit of apple juice or water and cinnamon for the baby, makes them soft but easier/faster than baking.

You need to stop doing this. Your child is 3. He needs to learn how to eat already.

You don't know what's going on with everyone's child and PP doesn't need to explain. STFU.
