I had a miscarriage in July and a subsequent D&C ![]() When do you go in for a blood test to confirm? I really need some reassurance that things are OK the next go-round. The miscarriage was really such a letdown. I have heard about the "beta", but have no idea what that is! I skipped bloodwork on the last pregnancy, so maybe I just missed something. |
I am on the neurotic side - I went to my doctor for a blood test (this is the beta test you mention) at eight days late. I got a very early positive result and am waiting to hear back this AM on results of a follow up test to confirm that my numbers are doubling appropriately. It made me feel better to go in for the blood test - it can tell you earlier than a home test that you're pregnant (and in fact I got two negative home tests before I went for my blood test). |
I had a miscarraige and can completely relate. I'm now pregnant (32 weeks).
First, home pregnancy tests are very reliable. Essentially, if you get a positive, you are pregnant (yay!). Make a doc appointment for as soon as possible, and the doc will draw blood to test your hormone levels. This will be good because, in my case, I had a significant bought of implantation bleeding, causing me to think, "here we go again". It started as brown discharge, and I went back to the doc. Because he took my blood at my first visit, and then took blood again, we knew that my hormone levels were doubling. Then, when the discharge turned to bright red, scary blood, we could do the same. This is in the time before an ultrasound could identify the pregnancy (though we also tried that). So it really gave us the piece of mind we needed that there was no need to panic. And luckily, there wasn't. |
OP here - many thanks for the advice! Really hoping this time around goes better than the last! |
