painting kitchen cabinets

Anonymous
Has anyone had a professional come and paint your kitchen cabinets? Does it look like an original finish? We have natural toned wood with a sealant on it and want to paint them black or white. But, I want it to look like they came that way, not re-painted. I would most appreciate some recommendations or thoughts.

I think that for that, they remove the doors and spray them with a machine. My mom is considering doing that to hers.

If you're even a little handy or have a handy DH, you could DIY it.

Ugh, that is a huge project to do and to have it turn out looking good. You really have to be very patient and detail oriented. Oh, and did I mention patient?

I recently did my cabinets by myself with rustoleum cabinet renovations. I hemmed and hawed for a year . . . reading reviews, looking and before and after photos, and then I finally took the plunge. We had ugly 1980s oak cabinets and we did the the Tudor color. They turned out FABULOUS. And it was super easy - I've no experience painting cabinets and they turned out wonderfully. Check it out!

I helped my sister do this, and it turned out great DIY. You'd never know.

The key is to remove all the cabinets from the hinges. Use wood filler if installing new hardware. Do the sanding. Prime. Paint. Let one side dry before moving on to the other side. No cutting corners.
