Has this happened to anyone else?
I was having 2 really bad days of heavy flow. Day 2 I was a bit dizzy so I decided to just sit down and take it easy. I was still dizzy but I ignored it. Eventually I stood up, and then I passed out. Has anyone else experienced this? |
| A friend of mine did, but I can't remember the cause or the solution. The only people I've known who have passed out for no apparent reason were really dehydrated, so their blood pressure was low when standing up. That might be a possibility. |
| I've been anemic in the past and doctors have asked whether I felt light-headed during my period when they were running down the list of symptoms, so maybe that is something worth checking out. |

Perhaps it was just severe fatigue OP.
Anyway, I would see a Dr. if possible. It would be catastrophic if you were driving or walking in public. I have severe bleeding with my periods and always have. In fact, sometimes I have to call in sick to work because I am afraid that I will leak since I am a cashier and only get one fifteen minute break after a few hours. I have to wear two overnight pads during the day and at night, I need to set my alarm to change my pads every four hours. While I have never fainted, I have fallen asleep unexpectedly at times. The fatigue is very bad and I have been told I have an iron deficiency. Good luck to you, hope this helps. |

Please get checked for anemia, it can cause those symptoms, and is not unusual in women with heavy periods.

| Do you have fibroids? |
| This happened to a friend of mine a couple weeks ago. She was having really bad abdominal pains as well. Stopped at Starbucks on her way to work for a coffee, went to the bathroom due to an upset stomach, passed out while she was on the toilet. Her PCP sent her to the ER, EKG was clear, it's just the way some people react to pain was basically the diagnosis. Kinda like how some people pass out when seeing blood. I would see your MD just in case. |

This has happened to me for years and remains undiagnosed. Been investigated by GYNs, cardios, neurologists. Doesnt happen every cycle, but when it does it happens on day 1 or 2 of cycle, accompanied by really bad cramps. I have low BP regularly. Happened a few times in my teens during deep sex, but i didnt full pass out. As years have gone by I have actually crapped my pants when it happens. No joke. The only time it doesnt happen is when I am on BCP, but BCP cause me other issues. No fibroids, nothing anatomically wrong with me.
Latest doc thinks the BCP connection is total coincidence and thinks I am dehydrated, as PP says above. I had to go off BCPs. He suggested gatorade. I also taken 20mg of valium. The first couple nights of period to ward off thw serious cramps, and aleve the first couple days for sme purpose. Gatorade might be working. Since giving birth only happened once and it was my first peroid following birth, 13 mons ltr. But I live in fear every cycle. |

Do you have vasal vagel (SP?)? You can google this for more info, but this is basically when your body thinks it is in danger and diverts blood to the major organs. I get it sometimes when dehydrated, stressed, overly tired, having bad cramps, having bad diarrhea (sorry TMI), or a combo of the above. I have learned to recognize the feeling so I usually have to put my head down asap and leave it there. Then, I get waves of cold and heat -- alternating -- for like 5 mins I'll be burning up -- then suddenly I'll be freezing and all the sweat on my body from the previous hot "phase" is making me shiver and freeze -- and then a hot phase comes again -- this alternates, generally lessening in length, with more and longer periods of feeling "normal" in between the hot/cold waves. This is what happens but I don't actually pas out, but I think this is my body trying to get itself back together. I think if I don't immediately recognize the symptoms, get myself to someplace private, and get my head down, then I would go so far as to pass out.
Do you think this could be it? for me, a 2nd day of very heavy flow would certainly be a trigger, esp. if I were, at the same time: dehydrated, tired, stressed, or any of the above. |
| this happened to me once several years ago when my period was unusually heavy. never happened again, but it did signal the beginning of my period being a bit more erratic. i mentioned it to my doctor when i saw her a month or so later and she wasn't that concerned if it did not happen again and i had no further complication. but very odd. i don't think i quite passed out but closest i ever came to fainting.... |

This used to happen to me prior to having a baby. My periods are less hellish since I gave birth the first time.
My BP has always been low. It is made worse by: anemia, dehydration, pain and rising too fast. |
