People who refer to their parents as "mom" or "dad" when relating a story

Do you know people who do this? For example, "We were at the store the other day and mom wanted to buy eggs.." Instead of saying my mom. This irritates me slightly. You need to say "my mom." Your mother is your mother. There is more than one mom in this world.

I worked with a woman in her mid-twenties who referred to her father to us, her coworkers, as Daddy. For some reason when grown women do that AND live with their fathers, it always makes me wonder if they have an inappropriate relationship with them.

no you talk like people write on DCUM and say "Well my dear husband went to the playground with my dear child number 1, and then I picked up dear child number 2 from my mother's house. when I got back Dear husband and I went to panera bread with the little ones.

I totally agree with you, OP. I had a high school boyfriend that used to do this. He was very old school. Catholic military family, very formal.

I called my father all my life and he died when I was 29. This is what he wanted to be called. I hate women refer to themselves as ,Moms./ You are a mother.

I referred to him in conversation as "my dad;" but I said, "Daddy" when talking to him 'til he passed away at age 86. I also used "Mama" when talking to my mom until she passed away at age 83. Believe me, I loved them dearly and wish they were both still here.

I'm guilty of calling my dad "Daddy" but only when addressing him or speaking to my mom about him.
