Open Toe Shoes Year Round?

Anonymous
Did I miss the memo that these are ok year round? I just ran across a sale on Hautelook titled Fall Favorites and several are open toe, ballet flats & heels. I've always been of the mindset that if I'm wearing open toe shoes, a great pedicure is essential and hose look tacky. Even going from house to parking garage to the office, I don't get the whole open toe year round thing. What's the point of open toe shoes if you can't show off cute toes? And if you're wearing any kind of hose, that's not going to happen. I know the white after labor day thing doesn't really apply any more, but I just don't see how you're supposed to wear open toe shoes and not freeze your feet off.

No. It's true you shouldn't. But when it is crazily warm in October--like it is today--I'll run around in nice black flip flops to do errands. I think it's fine. Would never wear them to go to any kind of "event" this time of year though. DC is very casual to gauche about most styles--you'll never beat us out of our schlumpy outré fashion sense, no matter how you scold us. We are happily not stressed about that too much--frees up our time to obsess about important things like keeping our electric cars charged and shaking our fists at Suburbans.

Op here. I'm wearing open toe ballet flats today but it is unseasonably warm. It just seemed odd that I was seeing all sorts of peep toe pumps in professional styles. I mean sure, if it's a platform it will keep your toes from getting wet if it's raining, but I'm not huge in to platforms unless it's a wedge.

Thank you for posting this. I have noticed this in my office and I am the only one who seems surprised by it. I always thought they were for warm weather months too.

Op again, nice to know I'm not alone. I can't stand how hose look with open toe shoes. It's insanely tacky to me.

I dont wear hose bc I am not over 60.

I do wear open toe shoes all year long bc my feet get very hot. I rarely wear them to the office though, mostly just sandals on the weekend - even in 30 degree weather.

open toe shoes with bare feet or opaque tights was a big look among the international fashionistas. It may not be your cup of tea, but, yes, you missed the memo.

In DC, because of the weather, you can wear open-toed shoes anytime from March until November.

For indoor galas/weddings, sandals and open-toed are ok year round.

But, if it's cold, closed-toed, hands down.

And NO HOSE. Nothing is worse than webbed feet.

I used to stick to the rules of no hose with open toed shoes, and no white pants after Labor Day, but, fashion rules have changed, and finally after a couples years of fighting it, I’ve decided to follow the trend. They have cute suede open toe boots for the Winter, and there’s no way I can wear them without hose, so I will be wearing both. And, a lot of the Fall lines have white jeans. I like that because it gives me something different to wear (dressed up or down) without trying to look trendy.

Agreed - Hose with open toed shoes have been in the magazines for atleast a few years now.

substantial peep toe shoes with opaque tights are a cute look. Please no sheer hose though, or anything with more toe showing than peep toe.

Donna Karan makes pantyhose that have open toes, but are hose for the rest of the part. Does that make sense?

Okay... then don't wear them.
