DC is at HGC now and we think the Takoma Park MS magnet would be a good fit, but we're concerned about the length of the bus ride. Home school is Somerset, so the local MS option is Westland. If you have a child at TP now, and your home school is Somerset or nearby (Westbrook, Wood Acres, CC, etc.), how long is your child on the bus each way? TIA.

This years bus schedules are posted from Eastern. Try TPMS's website. |
I agree. Also, many parents carpool - once your child is admitted, it is generally easy to coordinate w/other parents for alternate transportation. Three of my children have gone through the TMPS magnet and it is a fabulous program. Well worth the additional logistics. |
My son is at Eastern. After school, he takes the shuttle from Eastern to Blair. From Blair, its about 45 minutes to CCES. He arrives at CCES around 3:50-4P.
The morning bus is absurd. He would have to be at CCES at 6:20A or so, and would arrive at Eastern 30 minutes before school starts. I don't think that is really transportation. We carpool in the morning, and I think most others do too. When we tried the morning bus a few times last year, there was only one other MS magnet student at CCES. However, there are quite a few Eastern and TPMS students on the afternoon bus. HTH |
