If Romney wins, what are the odds of another war?

Or significant military action? He's got himself surrounded by neocon advisors and acts like Iran is the devil. And I don't get the impression he cares about people in the military at all. I can't help but think he will see troops as easily expendable to further his political needs.

But since he flip flops so much, I truly don't know what to expect. ?

Who knows. He has no foreign policy at all. Following his statements on international affairs is like watching leaves blowing around in your back yard.

We have always been in at least one war per president, nothing new

It's pretty simple actually. If you're America's ally, you'll be getting a loyal partner again, but as Ryan SAID on Thursday, they'll look long and hard about committing our forces.

If you're our adversary, we're standing up again.

So no, he doesn't want war, but we'll be respected again.

It is impossible to predict unless you have a crystal ball and can see what is going to happen in the world over the next 4 years. OP you are trying to stir an empty pot.

As I understand their policy, it's to do the same things we are doing now, but jabber about American exceptionalism as we do so.

Its the same people who brought you the Iraq war. No they really are. Only it is bigger and they understand less! With Iran you get mountain like Afghanistan, double the population, organized resistance, and years of operational experience against American forces. fun fun fun

I don't know.

Pretty damn high--and the odds are equally high that the administration will finger point and duck responsibility.

Carter didn't go to war.

Clinton had Somalia (started under Bush) and the no fly zone over Bosnia, and an action in Haiti in which we were not opposed by the military.

So it's not fair to pretend that all presidencies are equal when it comes to war and peace. Those presidencies did not involve anywhere near the kind of deployments and casualties that we saw in the last administration.

What are the odds of another war, if Romney wins?

They are most excellent, thanks for asking. Who knows Romeny's real views (if he has any) but he seems to have fallen under the influence of a coterie of neocons who helped to bring us the Iraq war and populated the foreign policy shop set up in the office of the Vice President under Cheney. Some, like Dan Senor, a former flack to Iraq Pro-Counsul Paul Bremer, now pass themselves off as national security experts. Many are "chicken hawks" -- self-styled conservatives who are very quick to urge U.S. military action but who never wore the uniform themselves or have close family members who serve. It's very easy to commit minority, Southern, rural kids to combat to support one's geopolitical worldview formed the comfort of a right-wing think tank, when one has little idea of the sacrifices that others bear.

We will be in Iran. The price of oil will soar and all hell will break loose.
