DD is 4 months and we are starting to think about baby food. We have a regular blender but are wondering if theres something we can use that smaller and easier to wash if were not going to be pureeing a lot at one time?
What did you use to puree when you first started? Also tips in general would be good too

I use this. I steam/boil until soft and "zip zip." At first I pureed with breast milk or formula, now just the water I cooked it in.

| Hand blender, the mini blender attachment on my hand mixer, or a blender. |
Nothing. Bought Earth's Best at Target and Whole Foods. Easy peasy.
|
| Immersion blender or just mashed (avocado; sweet potato; banana) |
| Beaba Babycook. Small and easy to clean. |
| I used my mini-prep food processor, but then switched to my normal sized food processor when I started to make in bulk. |
| We used a regular blender or the food processor attachment to the blender. Using an actual food processor was the PITA option, so the blender seemed pretty easy. |

BABY BULLET
I'm surprised I am the 1st to post this - I think this is the #1 selling blender. My regular blender just wouldn't puree right and it is too big. Get this one - it comes with containers too in a set (although you'll want to buy other ones as baby eats bigger portions). |

PP again
Tip - you have to add a splash of water. Our staples for veggies are carrots and broccoli. And we freeze lots of servings too. For a main course, we do potatoes with a little cheddar, beans/rice or chicken/rice, and pasta with ground beef and a splash of sauce. |
| Second vote for the mini-prep food processor. Does a great job on baby food with none of the PITA aspect of a full-sized one. Plus, even pre-baby it was a workhouse in my kitchen, great for sauces, dressings, grinding nuts, everything. |
Ditto. I already had the immersion blender, so wasn't going to buy something else for just a few months, when I already had a good solution. FYI, I found the recommendations on http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/ to be perfect. Very easy recipes and ways to prepare first stage foods. |
| A fork. |
I used the regular magic bullet, or the food processor for larger batches. Froze purees in ice cube trays. |

I used my food processor or my immersion blender.
My child ate pureed foods for a total of about six weeks. After he figured out he could pick stuff up and eat it himself, there was no going back to the spoon--so I would caution against any big purchases for a fairly short span that you will be using it. |
