We're a couple of years from kindergarten, but I'm curious about class size in the public elementary schools. So, how many kids are in your child's class, and what grade and school district is your child in? I'm assuming each class has one teacher so please indicate whether there is also an assistant teacher(s) in the class as well. |
My child goes to Eaton and she has 24 kids with two teachers. |
my child's prek class is 20 |
my child attends a montessori school where the PK3, PK4, and K children are all combined into a class of 27 children. |
In MoCo my understanding is that the "official" class size for K is around 25-26 (one teacher). You can end up with a smaller class size based on socioeconomic factors (like a title I school), or at schools with only 1-3 classes per grade (if there's only one class that is scheduled to have 30 kids, that would become two classes of 15 kids). |
All of the MoCo school information is on-line, so you will get a much better picture of class size by looking up the elementary schools there than asking here. |

Our public charter is 25 kids/class with a teacher and an assistant. |
It varies from school- to-school and even year-by-year. I have 23 kids in my 4th grade MCPS class. Last year I had 25 kids. My 3rd grade DD has 31 kids in her class. My 1st grade DS has 24 kids in his class. |
My son's kindergarten class in public school in PG county was 18 with a teacher and an assistant. |
Mann 4th has 25 kids and 2 teachers (one paid for by PTA fees). I've heard that several DC public schools have this arrangement given the large class sizes. |
OP here. Thanks for sharing! |
DC's kindergarten class at Claremont Elementary (dual-immersion) has 24 kids - this year the school saw an uptick in enrollment. |
Our K class at Mann has 21 kids, 2 teachers (teacher and assistant). |
My daughter's K class at Maury in Alexandria had 17 kids w/1 teacher and 1 assistant last year. In 1st grade she has 20 kids and 1 teacher with no assistant. |
