FSH has to be EXACTLY day 3?!

Anonymous
I am so mad that I didn't ask this today at the Dr. and am dying to know. I'll call in the a.m. but though I'd pose the question here. I am going to get a FSH blood test and the Dr. said to come in on day three of my cycle. It could very well be, now that I look at the calendar, that my next day 3 is a Saturday or Sunday. Is that is the case and the office is closed, do I just have to wait for the next month or is it ideally the third day and you can do it 2nd or 4th?

Thanks for any help.

You need to do it the 3rd day of red blood. Most RE's have hours on Saturday or Sunday to accommodate this kind of thing. Check with your RE.

Some places will do it on day 2 or 4, but the preference is for day 3 (I think this is because there is some uncertainty as to what day 1 is for some women -- it can be hard to decipher spotting from full flow). Anyway, I've never had any trouble getting my blood work done on a weekend. Most RE offices are open 365 days a year.

You can also get the day three test done at LabCorp. My RE did not mention that option, but when I asked about it, they said it was fine. Some LabCorp offices are open on Saturdays (and some locations may be open on Sundays, i'm not sure). I have limited insurance coverage and it was cheaper for me to get the test done at LabCorp plus they has longer Saturday hours than my RE.
