Crestwood

So, I know there are some older threads about this neighborhood, but I wanted to hear more recent thoughts about the "neighborhoody" ness of Crestwood. I guess my concern is that since it seems like most kids go to private (our kids do), most kids wouldn't be out and about or know each other? Is this an incorrect assumption? The houses are sublime, and though not cheap, our money would go SO much farther. The spanish colonial that JUST went was amazing. Can't find link, will keep trying to find...

My kids are on the younger side (under 6) but we've met other kids just out walking and there are regular neighborhood events that give good chances for kids to meet. I really like how down-to-earth everyone is here.

The ease of meeting other children varies block-by-block. There are parts of the neighborhood in which quite a few kids can be found playing outside.

Our friends own the Spanish colonial you mentioned. It's a great house.

Also, quite a few children in the neighborhood are at charters for elementary and the neighborhood is zoned for Deal and Wilson. So, there are public school kids around (including mine). But, the fact that children attend so many different schools does mean that they have a harder time meeting each other.

Agree with the comments above. There are several kid-centric events a year (Easter, Halloween, 4th of July), which are really quite nice, although I haven't found it very easy to meet people at them. We chose Crestwood because we wanted more house for our money and lucked out by getting into the charter we wanted.

OP here, thanks to all for the information. I'm drawn to the fact that the neighborhood has been diverse, too. Did not know that the house was zoned for Deal and Wilson...which is totally fantastic. We're in private now, but would consider Deal and Wilson for middle and high. Yippee!!!

Plus, I'd totally come find Jeff and Maria and say hello!!! Hee hee!

Thanks again.

If you're looking at crestwood, I would also look at 14th/16th st heights. We live there and there are lots of kids.

We live in Crestwood and love it. There are tons of kids in our area, and although it's true that they all go to different schools, there is lots of playing outside, riding bikes, etc. The neighborhood is very diverse and friendly. The only downside is that you can't really walk to anything (except Rock Creek Park, which is great), but it does mean that there's not too much noise or traffic.
