N Arlington 3BR/2BA SFH listed at $499k

Saw this and am passing it on - charming house with good schools. This is a good deal these days. Some more reasonably priced homes can be found in these neighborhoods in North Arlington.

that listing doesn't mention the lot size. as-is condition for $499 in N.Arl says that's a tear-down opportunity waiting to happen.

It's a crappy house in an ugly neighborhood. Be my guest.

Agree with the PP. OP, you sound like a RE agent.

Not a great house and not my favorite Arlington neighborhood either but it is far from the worst and is an opportunity for people who want to be in Arlington, close to Metro / public transit (ART bus also runs through that neighborhood) and can't afford a million dollar house. The schools are also good (Ashlawn / Kenmore / Washington-Lee) and near the bike path, parks, restaurants, etc. so it might be a good find for the right person.

There are a lot of teardowns in that neighborhood because most of the old homes there are very small even for Arlington standards.

Ashlawn Elementary is bursting at the seams, so it seems that whole area is popular right now. It won't be on the market long.

That's a great location and you could do a lot with it. Under $500k in North Arlington is a great deal. I run through that area quite a bit - it's near Wilson and Carlin Springs but not *on* either one of them, and it's walking distance to both the Bluemont Junctino trail and the WOD.

Not a realtor, just someone who got a good deal on a house in North Arlington last year and hopes others can do the same!

People who can't afford a million dollar house have plenty of alternatives to a shack like this. Good grief.

I'm the OP and I promise I'm not a RE agent, and I don't even live in this section of N Arlington. I'm just someone who got a good deal on a N Arlington house several years ago, and watch real estate and home improvement topics for fun.

I've seen posts on here saying it isn't possible to get something in N Arlington for under $900k, and that simply isn't true. For better or for worse, this is what's available in the $500k price point right now in (western) N Arlington.

I guess I would need to understand better what the "as is" condition is to say whether it seems like a good deal or not.

Sometimes it's put in there to scare off buyers who'll want a laundry list of things to fix.

The "as is" makes me wonder if it's really a tear down.
