| Curious how many families are sending their child(ten) in to school with a laptop or iPad this year. |
| My son took his Kindle a lot last year. He's only 10, so we aren't at point of anything more than that. |
| I can see the kids using them for the wrong purpose when someone is not watching - in recess, aftercare etc. Classes are so big now - how will teachers ensure the kids are only using them for educational purposes? |
| This sounds like a terrible idea unless the schools are prepared to monitor use and cope with the fall out when one is broken or stolen. |
The schools, at least FCPS, is ready to monitor. Check, http://www.fcps.edu/it/byod it really depends on the school. It is much more predominant in the middle schools than elementary, but given the trend to the online text books, it will be there for the upper grades. |
| My fifth grader's teacher is pushing for 100% of her class to bring in either an iPad or laptop. If your child doesn't, she said that they will be at a disadvantage. They cannot guarantee that your child will be able to use a school laptop when they need it. They will be doing their daily math from the online textbook. |

I agree it sounds like a terrible idea. First of all, way to disadvantage those kids who don't have the resources to bring an ipad or laptop to school. If this is a priority, the system needs to figure out how to fund it or at least provide devices for those without the means.
My son is in 1st grade, and his teacher at Back To School Night basically discouraged sending them with any electronics. Maybe I'll feel differently about it when my kids are older, but right now I cannot see the benefit. |
|
9:15: So your 5th grade teacher basically said that families that can not afford a laptop or tablet for the fifth grader is at a disadvantage? That is wrong. Teacher/Principle should be corrected.

My god this is wrong on so many levels... |
What school is this? We are a a school with very high income families, and this would cause quite an uproar. |
| I don't want to name the school. But there have been emails flying for days over it. |
