Best Make Up for Eczema

Anonymous
Over the summer, I switched from Bare Minerals to Bobbi Brown's new mineral make up. It caused an eczema falre up on my chin, so I switched back to Bare Minerals. It's actually gotten worse. I'll see my dermatologist on Tuesday for medicine, but I'm wondering what kind of make up my face might tolerate. I'll try and spend anything! I just want to wear a "natural" face of make up without battling eczema on my chin. It's driving me crazy! Thanks!

Can you go without makeup, ie, best makeup for a skin condition is no makeup?

With both acne and eczema, I've found that just the process of switching makeup or moisturizer causes a flare-up that eventually goes away when my skin gets used to it.

I would just minimize your makeup use and stay the course on whatever makeup you think will work best in the long run.

I've finally come to accept that I can't wear any makeup because of skin allergies. Eyeliner and mascara irritate my eyes; anything on my face irritates that skin. I now just use some tinted chapstick. (Luckily my job does not require me to be all made up and pulled together.)

If anyone here has preposterously sensitive skin like this and does have makeup that doesn't make them itch like crazy, I'd love to hear about it.

I have very sensitive skin too. I use this makeup:

They used to sell it at places like L&T, but it's only online now. (I remember the name of the shade I use, but it was useful getting the in-person match.)

I also have eczema and I've only been able to use BE. Maybe after the flare up goes down, you'll be able to go back? Wish I could be of more help. I know how much eczema sucks.

I have had eczema my whole life, to varying degrees (all over with weeping to just a few spots). I have found that anything with lanolin causes me issues. So no BB moisturizers. But I have used the makeup with no issues.

Are you maybe having a flair up for other reasons that you wrongly attributed to the makeup? Stress, new food?

I also think maybe you should try no makeup in that area if possible.

btw, I used to use prescriptives. Was ok makeup. Worth a try, I guess, but it doesn't mean it wont also cause you issues.

OP, I feel for you. I'm dealing with an eczema flare-up following my crazy decision to actually wear eye makeup to a wedding last week. Like some other PPs, I guess I just can't do eye makeup anymore.

I seem to be doing okay with Smashbox tinted moisturizer. I usually put BE mineral veil over it, but the mineral veil seems to irritate a little more than the Smashbox along. So annoying.

I have found that CeraVe cream calms the flare-ups down better than anything else I have tried.

Hi there -- Bare Minerals caused a flare up of my eczema and acne (lovely, I have both, as well as rosacea). I switched to a mineral makeup that does not contain bismuth oxychloride -- Bare Minerals does -- which can be very irritating to sensitive skin. I see that Bobbi Brown's mineral makeup does not have bismuth oxychloride, but it does have a dimethicone in it, which also can be irritating. Bobbi Brown also has lots of other chemical ingredients. Maybe try a mineral makeup with fewer/purer ingredients? I am currently using Meow Cosmetics mineral makeup (http://www.meowcosmetics.com/) and am happy with it. Miraculously, it does not irritate my highly reactive, sensitive skin. In the past I also tried Larenim minerals, which you can get at some Whole Foods, with some success.
