Any thoughts on the lastest with Palin?

I just came across this article on MSNBC. Palin won't meet with investigators to discuss "Troopergate" because the investigation has been "tainted by Democrats"??!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26727937/

I really do want to like Sarah Palin. However, each time I read/watch the news, another shoe/bomb has dropped.

Why do you want to "like" her? Judge her on her fitness as a potential commander in chief, statesman, diplomat, policy-maker, and leader. Judge whether her conduct and the conduct of her campaign indicates a fitness or an unfitness to lead.

Oh, it gets better and better.

The reason she says that she fired him was insubordination over funding decisions -- NOT because she was pressuring him to fire her ex-brother in law.

The presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain is trying to put to rest the ethical controversy that's come to be known as "Troopergate," releasing e-mails supporting Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's contention that she dismissed her public safety commissioner over budget disagreements, not because he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law.

But just curious, what was it that the Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan wanted funding FOR? (note: Sarah Palin wants to "cut wasteful earmarks" so these things she did not support asking for funding for will give you a sense of her priorities... these things are considered wasteful to her....)

The last straw, the McCain campaign said, was in July, when Monegan planned to travel to Washington to seek federal money for a plan to assign troopers, judges and prosecutors who could exclusively handle sexual assault cases — one of the state's most intractable crime problems.

Now I understand how consistent she is. It makes sense to me that if you want to protect unborn life you would, as she does, oppose abortion even in cases of rape and incest. But she goes a step further: to protect the rights of each sperm and egg as a potential human being she supports sexual assault.

Her position is consistent with the fact that while she was mayor of Wasilla, the city charged rape victims for the investigative rape kits -- apparently the only town in Alaska to do so.

She does not appear to have much sympathy for sexual assault victims.

Someone out there, please tell me this:

With her months of executive experience as governor of Alaska, what has Sarah Palin done to reduce the deplorable incidence of sexual abuse, "one of the state's most intractable crime problems"?

Or much outrage for sexual assault perpetrators . . .

... and maybe when the Democrat head of the investigating body promises the media an "October surprise" she might have a point about a tainted investigation?

And when the three Democrat members of the investigating body are all photographed together on the stage at an Obama '08 rally, one can question the impartiality?

I honestly don't know what happened between Palin and Monagan - but the Democrats are doing a wonderful job of creating doubt in the process for the Republicans to exploit.

Since everyone in the campaigns, including Cindy McCain has shown her tax returns, I'd like to see the Palins' tax record made public as well. Why aren't they public already? Are they going to show her sweetheart deals with the ... I don't know, the oil companies, NRA?

I'd be suspicious of any emails released given that she and her staff seem to have regularly used personal email accounts to avoid potential subpoeanas (see http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us/politics/14palin.html?ref=politics).

Do you have any links to support the above claims? Thanks!

Well -- there are 4 Democrats and 8 Republicans on the investigating body. The fact that the Democrats support the Democrat candidate for president doesn't seem incriminating evidence that the entire investigation is biased.

What's not clear to me is why one earth would the Governor and her staff start using their personal emails for government business so early on in their administration and do it based on their assumption of subpoenas not being applicable to their personal blackberries & emails? Palin was sworn in December 2006. Is it because they're up to no good?

How does one engage in a "sweetheart deal" with the NRA?

I don't believe Cindy McCain has released her tax returns, nor does she plan to. She and her husband file separate returns.
