anyone TTC #2 and nursing #1 at the same time?

Is it more difficult to conceive? How does it affect charting? Thanks.

We did it. It worked. No charting though because I never got a period. I was already pregnant when #1 was 6 months. If you drop one middle of the night feeding, it works.

I got preg. with #1 on blind luck, first try, was not charting and guessed at ovulation. I've had my period back since 6 mo PP, but I'm still nursing my 12+ mo old about 3 times each day/more on weekends. I am charting but sometimes its all over the place. I think my biggest problem is I'm not seeing a lot of fertile cervical fluid. We have been half-heartedly trying for the last 2 cycles, but I think will get more serious this next cycle. How's it going for you?

Doing that right now. In fact, right after the 6 week pp doc. appt. when I got the green light to resume normal life (exercise, sex, etc.) and have been trying every since.

Some women are not able to get pregnant while breastfeeding/pumping because ovulation is suspended due to the higher amounts of estrogen (?) in your body which stimulates/stabilizes milk production. But some women do ovulate, get their period, and get pregnant while nursing (which is why BFing is not a fool-proof form of birth control).

Unfortunately, that was not the case for us. Now that my DD is a year, she's on whole milk now...but I'm still waiting for AF to return. The doc. said that it can take up to 8 weeks from the LAST lactation before ovulation occurs.

Also, if you pick up the Taking Control of Your Fertility from the library there is a chapter in there about getting pregnant while still nursing.

good luck.

I did, when dd#1 was 16 mos old. So only nursing 2 times a day.
