Doing that right now. In fact, right after the 6 week pp doc. appt. when I got the green light to resume normal life (exercise, sex, etc.) and have been trying every since.
Some women are not able to get pregnant while breastfeeding/pumping because ovulation is suspended due to the higher amounts of estrogen (?) in your body which stimulates/stabilizes milk production. But some women do ovulate, get their period, and get pregnant while nursing (which is why BFing is not a fool-proof form of birth control).
Unfortunately, that was not the case for us. Now that my DD is a year, she's on whole milk now...but I'm still waiting for AF to return. The doc. said that it can take up to 8 weeks from the LAST lactation before ovulation occurs.
Also, if you pick up the Taking Control of Your Fertility from the library there is a chapter in there about getting pregnant while still nursing.
