class list

On back to school night a paper was passed around and all parents put their info on it so we had a way to contact one another. I have yet to see that paper in any form. The teacher said she was not allowed to initiate it or follow through. Who do I contact about it. My DD (K) wants to invite a new friend over. I have no idea how to contact the parents (DD doesn't know the child's last name so I can at least do an online search for contact info).

Why don't you ask the teacher?

Do you know who the room parents are? They are usually the ones who get that list and create a class e-mail group.

Our PTA puts out a directory in the Fall. Parents have the option to opt out if they choose..that is why the teacher won;t give out people's info.

Send a note to the other girl's parents in your child's backpack. Include your contact info and that your dd wants a playdate. Hopefully, the teacher will help pass it along.

This. Still, I've never heard of a teacher so unwilling to help with contact info. How is anyone supposed to plan the class parties?

Strange you never found out about room parents. They are the ones who gave us our list. We also got a school directory right at the start of the year that had every family's contact information and class lists as well.

Some schools go overboard with the privacy issue. Our school is like this too. It seems that anyone who would put their contact info on the list that OP describes would be ok with sharing that info. That is the point of filling out the list, right? So,why would a teacher be so afraid to send the list around. Sounds like privacy overkill.

In our school, the directory doesn't come out until late Oct./Nov., so it is really hard for new families to connect unless teachers and room parents facilitate lists like this.

Same here. And one year, the short-staffed PTA took til December. I used previous year's directory. Almost once a year I'd need an email and ask the teacher, and alway the same -- no-can-do/privacy. Same answer when I asked at main office and I was a very familiar face and regular volunteer

Oddly, I was a room parent one year and couldn't get info. Had to send info/ flyer through backpack to annouce halloween party plans, and in it I asked for contributions and contact emails for further updates...

Still they should tell you who room parents are, even if only the name.

I've had issues with this too. I was told the teachers cannot give out addresses, phone numbers, email addresses - and I get that. But I had kind of hoped the room mom(s) would open up lines of communication among the parents somehow. The only way we got info from/to the room mom last year was through flyers in backpacks.

This year we were trying to plan a bday party for DS and I had to jump through hoops to try to get a copy of last year's PTA directory so I could get addresses for DS's friends. (The new directory doesn't come out until late Oct/Nov.) There was one boy who was new to the school that DS really wanted to invite so I asked the teacher how I could get an invite to him. After a couple of days she came back to me with the address - after she cleared it with the boy's parents.
