I'm due in a few weeks and am really glad September is still a summer month in DC: the only shoes I can get on my feet are sandals. Once I deliver, will the swelling go away immediately? I know some women go up a half size or so with each pregnancy, so maybe that's my problem, and I'm in denial. Any chance I'll be able to fit back into my normal shoes after giving birth? TIA! |
I had horrible swelling in my feet when I was pregnant and I did return to my normal size. I don't remember if it was immediate, but I don't think it took very long. Good luck! |
I had pretty bad ankle and feet swelling. It took about 7-10 days after I delivered before it went away completely. My feet are now the same size but I can't get into some of my pre-pregnancy shoes a year later (altho' could also be the left over baby wt. too). Best of luck! |
I also had really bad swelling in my feet and ankles. Mine actually got worse right after delivery (I had a c-section), but then got better 5-7 days later once I got off the painkillers. The swelling was completely gone by 2 weeks post partum. I gave birth in the summer, so I just wore flip flops for a while, but in the fall was able to wear my old normal shoes (sneakers, closed-toe heels, boots etc) just fine. |
I had bad swelling before I had my son, then I swelled even more after I had him (but I ended up with a c-section). I think about a week later swelling went down. |
Your body has stored a lot fluid over the course of pregnancy. Ankles and other joints tend to swell.
You'll start shedding the extra fluid and feel less "puffy" once you give birth. It usually takes about a week for your body to flush out the extra fluid it no longer needs. |
OP here - thanks for all of the replies! |
I had mild swelling which actually got worse after delivery for the first couple of weeks, accompanied by feet sweating. But then it went away. The other question is whether your feet will have expanded, making old shoes not fit anymore. That doesnt go away though, sadly... |
