Eye Floaters during pregnancy?

Anonymous
Is anyone else experiencing eye issues during pregnancy? This is my 2nd and I don't recall it with the first.

I'm 31 weeks along and feel like I have white and black spots floating through my vision about 25% of the time. My blood pressure has been low to normal the whole pregnancy. Anyone?

I have them, too, though not quite as often as you describe. I know they can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia or dangerously high blood pressure, but mine is always low to abnormally-low. My dr. said they are caused by fluctuations in bp, particularly when you stand up/sit down/turn head. Could also be caused by increased blood flow. Not a great answer for sure, but my OB was not concerned about them and I'm very high-risk so I'm being monitored closely.

Call your OB. Even if your blood pressure has been normal so far, floaters that don't go away in a few seconds can be the sign of a very serious problem. This isn't the time to rely on the DCUM peanut gallery.

But yes, I did have some, but they never lasted more than 5 seconds. My OB said if they lasted longer, I should call him immediately.

I have no idea if floaters are a sign of pre eclampsia or problems with a pregnancy but I do know that they can be a sign of a detached retina. I recommend you go back to your ob and an eye dr asap. A detached retina can cause blindness if not treated quickly.

I have eye floaters and I was always told they were nothing to worry about by my high risk OB. I also asked last time I had my eye exam as was told the same thing.

I had them, and I had pre-E. let your doc know.
