question about plantars warts

Anonymous
DS's plantars warts turned black and fell off after a treatment combo of vinegar, duct tape, and tagamet. Some were pretty deep and left deep divots when they fell off.

We dont know if we need to continue to treat them and go deeper. Has anyone had this experience?

Is there a reason an MD can't assess this?

Time to switch doctors.

See a podiatrist.

I would def. switch peds. I used to get them a lot as a kid (swim team and refused to wear shoes in the shower) and my ped always took care of it. Friend's 5 year old son has had some pretty bad ones that his ped has taken care of as well.

But, if your kid gets these a lot and/or they are extremely painful (one friend's kid can't walk when she has one), I would go see a podiatrist.

My son had them and podiatrist applied this weird medicine that formed this huge blister. They said he would be only bothered for a few days but he missed soccer (older kid) for 2 weekends which was a bummer. But it worked really well - never has come back.

Go see podiatrist.

When I was little, I got plantars. I went to Dr. Fine in Arlington. It looks like he's still in practice! He would see me pretty quickly. He burned them off. It hurt for only a few days.

I'd stop treating now and see how they do. You probably got it all. Regardless of whether it's treated by a dermatologist or at home, they can come back. If you are concerned, you can skip the vinegar and just put duct tape on those spots.

He put blister beetle juice on it.

I'm getting one right now. It hurts like a son of a...

As soon as it completely "shows" I will go to a podiatrist. Right now it's just the black dot and translucent circle. Any other home remedy treatments? I think mine has developed due to a sudden increase in activity (walking 6miles per day).

Our daughter's never came back and the divot healed up. Just see what happens. You might want to apply coconut oil frequently, since it's anti-viral.

I'd never seen one before, and it was so creepily fascinating to watch it turn into that weird fibrous mess and then just pop out. We used the Compound W that comes in a chapstick tube.

I know! I found it fascinating too, in a gross sort of way.

The Compound W chapstick didn't work for me--it seemed like it would move off of the spot I had applied it. I've had good luck with the OTC freeze-off kits.

Had lots as a swimmer. Someone told me to put put nail polish (clear) on them. I did, and they dried up and turned to dust and brushed off. This was after years of painful and unsuccessful treatments with dry ice etc.
