Euro as a wedding gift (cash)

Anonymous
one of my colleagues is getting married this weekend. I am attending the wedding in New Jersey. They are going on an Italian honeymoon for 10 days. I was considering giving him an envelope on Wednesday before he leaves with a card and some Euro (equivalent of $150 US dollars) I hope they might use it for a meal, a special bottle of wine, something they might like to purchase together. In essence, giving cash to a non family member as a wedding gift. Is this tacky? A bad idea? They are registered. I could get towels/sheetc etc.

Thanks

I think it's nice.

It's nice. It's a gift that will be used.

I think it's a cool idea because it's Euros and they're going out of the country. Somehow if they were going to Florida and it were US dollars, it would be tacky, but the foreign currency makes it neat. It's always good to have some of the local currency as you enter a country, for tips, meals, and so on.

Good idea to give it to him before the wedding, too. Otherwise the card would probably sit until they return from the honeymoon. They'll be so busy these last few days, you might want to give him a heads-up that it's something he'll want to open so he can take it with him.

I think it's a great idea. We did something similar for some friends a while ago and they said it was one of their favorite gifts.

Also, cash is NEVER a bad gift.

I agree, although I also agree that getting euros makes it a better gift.

What's tacky is *asking* for cash.

I think it's thoughtful and definitely something I would love!

I was given Euro's before a big trip, I found it extremely thoughtful and it really came in handy to have some currency ready when I landed!
