Is it OK to wear trouser socks (thin socks, like hose) with ballet flats in this weather? Of course, I am talking about wearing with pants.
Have black flats and am wear black socks. I won't suffer and go sockless once it gets colder. |

Well it's OK to do it in the sense that you can do anything you want in America -- such as wear socks and sandals, but fashion-wise it's a faux pas.
Generally speaking, the smaller the vamp -- the top part of the shoe -- the better it looks without socks. If you are too cold in this weather to go sockless with ballet flats, than it's really time to put them away until spring and transition to other shoes. Tights with ballet flats are OK, but look very, very "young" IMO. |

Ugh, I was afraid of hearing that. Probably doesn't help that my black trouser socks also have tons of fuzz on them from who knows what.
What about NUDE trouser socks? I've always thought the bare foot/pant look is a little strange. |
| A dainty shoe requires a dainty sock. You need something rather sheer to wear with ballet flats. Nothing opaque. |

With work pants and ballet flats, sheer nude knee-highs, if you can get a nude that is a really good match to your skin tone, could work. I certainly don't expect anyone outside of my immediate family to be close enough to my ankles to know if I'm wearing them or not.
I think tights and flats are fine with dresses and skirts, same as with pumps. Are your ankles really that cold that you want to wear socks though? If so, start wearing boots. I think better to wear boots early than to wear opaque socks with ballet flats. Or get loafer style shoes instead of ballet flats.... |

No, to trouser socks.
Yes, to nude knee highs. |
Can I do this in the winter? I don't want to put the shoes away. |
| Of course. |
| I wear the nude knee highs in winter with ballet flats too, OP. It works. |
| This is a great time of year for moccasin-style shoes. Which can be worn with or without socks. |
| I was out with a mid-50's friend yesterday who was wearing either very thin black socks or black knee-highs with jeans and ballet flats. I thought it looked great. |
No sock? Peewhew! |

Last winter I posed a question here, and it was wondering about women who wear ballet flats in cold, snowy weather with no hose or tights. Because I was seeing them all the time. These were women on Metro and walking around Dupont... not going from house to car to office. Now that's just ridiculous.
OP, I think tights or hose are fine. |
I agree. If it is rainy or snowy, I will wear my boots. I do very little walking outside (I know it is sad), so I can still wear shoes if it is just cold. I wouldn't want to ruin my shoes in those conditions. |
| I wear my ballet flights with nude knee highs in the summer, too. |
