I can just hear Sarah Palin screaming hysterically a lamestream media Gotcha.
Will any reporter dare ask? http://www.drudge.com/news/159739/did-mitt-romney-take-2009-swiss-bank |
apologies missed typo SWISS |

Yes massa don't whip me massa |
I believe the answer is yes. Why else would he refuse to release his returns?

Guards! Seize him! |
Of course, given his prevarication, spinning, and serial changes of position, you will then get a long winded and vague, misleading answer all about what "take advantage" means.
He'll never answer that, as he has failed to answer so many other questions from his taxes, his economic plan, etc., etc., etc. |
The question, more precisely posed: "Mr. Romney, did you participate in the voluntary disclosure program offered in 2009 by the Internal Revenue Service?" |
MR: That program involved confidentiality, and it would be wrong for me to say one way or the other, since that would show disdain for confidentiality. I have nothing to hide, and that's why I have made two of my tax returns public, as well as letting you know all you need to know about several precious years by having a professional accountant glean all relevant information.
Me: In his defense, his two years of returns probably covered far more income than any other candidate has ever disclosed. He will probably have an ad out soon that labels him the champion tax discloser of all time. |
That question would be distraction for the American people. |
For four years, we have been debating the issue of tax fairness. Who pays taxes, who doesn't? Do wealthy people pay their fair share? Do poor people do enough? If we need to increase taxes, is it fair to do so to the wealthiest members of society? What is the effective tax rate of the rich vs. the midddle class. Is Obama engaging in class warfare? Is Romney a privileged elite with a world of options designed to minimize taxes for people like him? This isn't something a few campaign operatives conjured up. This is the conversation our country is having and has been having for some time. In a race where tax fairness is an issue, it matters greatly whether the candidate is a former tax cheat. If it is true, it would sink him. And not for unfair reasons. |
Sarah Palin: I just hope tonight the lame-stream media won't twist my words by repeatin' them verbatim. |
In fairness to Palin, she was unaware of the meaning of the word "verbatim" and it doesn't sound very nice. |
Haskins will thrash you and then you may go. |
Having a Swiss bank account does NOT make somebody a tax cheat. People move money offshore for legal reasons - just like people form LLCs. It's the same idea.
Failure to report income and pay your taxes makes you a tax cheat (assuming it was intentional). The Secretary of the Treasury didn't pay his taxes - and I highly doubt he had a Swiss bank account. |
