I signed up to bring her dinner 3 days after surgery/first day home from hospital. How about homemade chicken noodle soup, or minestrone soup, or would a casserole be better? I'm open to suggestions from anyone who has BTDT. Thx.
Soup is yummy, but hard to eat if you're half lying on the couch. My two cents. Also if u can bring a loaf of bread or something that she can also use for breakfast, that's great!
After my mastectomy I appreciated all food gifts, but the best were those that could appeal to the whole family (esp. my 4 year old) so that we didn't have to put together something for her to eat. I actually spent most of my time in the glider/recliner, not lying on the couch, so soup would have been fine with me (plus I see homemade soup as the ultimate comfort food).

We bought One Bite at a Time when we were cooking for our friend in the same situation. The meals got good reviews from her family (I hope they weren't just being nice). We liked it so much, it's now one of our regular family cookbooks.
(The black bean and avocado wraps are one of DS's favorite meals.) http://www.amazon.com/One-Bite-Time-Revised-Nourishing/dp/1587613271/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1348331217&sr=1-1&keywords=one+bite+at+a+time |
I think homemade chicken soup works in all situations.
Probably not chicken breasts.
