Preschools in Prince Georges County

I work in DC but was looking for a preschool closer to home. Are there any in Prince Georges County that are highly recommended?

You can call LOCATE child care to assist you. They have a data base of all centers and family providers and can give you center/homes within a radius in which you wish to search

OP- Thanks for initiating this thread. Often I am found thinking that DCUM totally omits a large and important region of the DC metro area- Prince Georges County.

We live in Upper Marlboro (closer to Bowie) and have two DS at a wonderful in-home day care environment. We are looking for pre-school transition for DS who will be 3 by next Fall. We have heard GREAT things about Melwood-Nazarene in Upper Marlboro and Corkran Child Care in Temple Hills. Both are Christian based programs with half-day options, diverse student body, caring and educated teachers. Teacher-student ratios are pretty good

I have a friend who took her kids to University Church Nursery School. Both of her boys were there for preschool (around the pandemic closures). They are now 6 and 8 and in ES, but she could not say enough good things about the teachers and community there. The family still keeps in touch with some of the friends that they met at that school.

I work at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt. My kids were at the Goddard Child Development Center on center. They have priority lists. NASA civil servants have highest priority, then NASA contractors, then non-NASA civil servants and finally all others. There is a wait list. The wait list pre-pandemic was long and hard to get off. But since the pandemic, the wait lists have not been nearly as bad and people on the wait list actually make it. So, you can apply and see if they have movement on the wait list or not. But the GCDC program is incredible. My kids got to have scientists come and do fun experiments (like one scientist did a liquid nitrogen demo for them). One of the astronauts visiting Goddard came and talked with the kids. When the king of Sweden was visiting Washington DC, he came out to Goddard and the kids got to meet him briefly and give him artwork gifts that they made. There were so many great features about the GCDC program. If you can get into it, it is a great program for the kids. My kids loved it.

Our kids are at Georgetown HIll-Greenwood and it has been good. I hear good things about Heritage House from friends whose kids go there. There is also the new Bright Horizon's center that just opened.
