how long does it take for mailed passport?

HI - I am waiting for the passport for my daughter to arrive back to me, so I can buy the ticket for her. I got the email from passport agency that they finished processing the passport and mailed it, but when I try to track it using the locator number they gave me in the email, but there are no matches in the usps system. I am beating myself for not ordering overnight delivery - i was so rushed as the post office was closing and kids running around....I am leaving in a week and a half. Do you have experience with the passport mail? Do you think I should go ahead and get the tickets?
TIA! Prices are going up every day...but the tickets for seats for infants are non-refundable (even tho cost 1500 usd) and to get refundable adult ticket is 500 dollars more...)

In my experience, it should arrive within 2-3 days. I would go ahead and buy the tickets. In the worst case scenario (which I see as highly unlikely), you can go into the passport office downtown and have them help you deal with it.

If they did the print your own labels they NEVER show up in tracking. Once they emailed you and said it's on the way, about 3 days is right (usually are sent priority).

We received our passports in exactly one week. Applied on a Friday at the post office and had them the following Friday.
