Expensive Salons Worth the Money?

Does anyone have any experience regarding whether the expensive salons are worth the extra money? I have tried Vidal Sassoon, Liz Arden, etc. and have not noticed much difference over an average-priced salon. I am wondering if I need to try either a more upscale or different salon, or whether the problem is simply that so much depends on the specific stylist you get.

My hair is so boring! I have had the same haircut for soooo long, and need an update, but not sure what salon/stylist to try. Any recommendations?

I tried a more expensive salon, and it was great. Went to Haircuttery after that and they completely ruined my hair. Cut it all wrong. I went back to the salon and been there ever since, and happy with cut, color and highlights.

I think part of it depends on what type of hair you have. I have fine curly hair and loved going to Vidal Sassoon. Best haircuts ever for me. But I had a hard time justifying the price after a while. I spent quite a bit of time researching recommendations for places/people likely to do a good job with my hair type. Tried one place/stylist for about a year and became more and more unhappy. Am now going to Bang on U Street and am quite happy. I still think VS haircuts are a touch better, but the ones I get at Bang are very good and so much cheaper.
