New to this - which fertility clinic is best?

Anonymous
I'm 43.5, live in Friendship Heights, and would like to have another baby. Given my AMA and non-success thus far, I think I need to get to a clinic ASAP (if it's not too late already). I have absolutely no clue which one to go to. I've looked around in the archives but didn't get any clear front-runner from the feedback, except maybe that Sacks is great but has a long wait list, which doesn't really fit with my situation.

Any recommendations? Thanks, and best of luck to everyone on this board.

There was a thread earlier this year regarding clinics for women over age 40. You might find some useful information there.

For what it's worth, I see Sacks and think he's great. I didn't have to wait at all to get in to see him (certainly less than 2 weeks). I got to him via a recommendation from my regular gyn, so perhaps see if your gyn can give you a rec and get you in? Although, I think all that recommendation entailed was my saying "My gyn, Dr. so-and-so recommended I see Dr. Sacks for infertility issues" when I called to make my initial appointment. If you want to see him, it's worth a shot.

If you want to try with your own eggs, SG is not the place for you. Sacks at CFA is the man to go to. SG won't allow you to do a round of IVF with your own eggs at 43.5.

Do you plan to use your own eggs?

Where are you willing to go? We had success with Dominion in Arlington. I hear Shady Grove is a bit of a mill.

Second this. I got in within a couple weeks, and I did not have a referral. Over the past year, he has also been very rreachable and able to schedule me in last minute if need be...

This exactly.

You will get a different opinion depending on whom you ask- especially on here. However- it is generally considered that GW and CFA are the most AMA friendly.

I got pregnant with NCIVF at 43 so I think that's worth a try.

We first went to Shady Grove. Waited 2 months for the appt. They were rude, told me I was too old, and showed me the door. I insisted I not pay for the appt., under the circumstances (they knew my age when I scheduled the appt.). Had I not insisted, I'm sure they would have billed me $. Then my GYN referred us to Dr. Sacks at Columbia Fertility. What a difference! He was great. We now have twins (we used donor eggs). I would avoid Shady Grove, go straight to CFA and Dr. Sacks. Oh, and none of this wait for 2 months for an appt. nonsense, either. I have also heard good things about GW.

they were great and very professional.

I would say GW, from my experience. At age 41 I went to Dominion and was told to use donor eggs. I switched to GW and they were very friendly and accepting of my age. I got pregnant on my first round of IVF with them and got pregnant with my second child at age 43 after two more IVF cycles.
