| While I was perusing the periodicals at the checkout register at the Giant today, I noticed the "National Enquirer" had a headline about a terrible cocaine scandal at Sidwell Friends school. Worse, it appears that the scandal involves President Obama's daughters. This is a real shocker. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this in the mainstream press. Even worse still, the article cites an article from the official school newspaper that a whopping 70% of Sidwell students have attended parties where drugs were available. Does anyone have more information about the scandal? It must be a terrible time for Sidwell parents. I bet there's some hard discussions making going on in the White House tonight. Disclosure: I don't have kids at Sidwell Friends myself. I can't afford the $35,000 annual tuition. But isn't it ironic that people pay all this money to send their kids to a supposedly good school, only to find out their kids are at a school surrounded by rich kids who do drugs and other unsavory things with impunity? |
| There's another thread on this. The "scandal" is citing a 90's school newspaper article. Old news. Move along. |
| Hahahahah. National Enquirer. Whatever. News flash: Parents know that their kids are at parties where there are serious drugs and sex being offered up. But they're in denial to a certain extent that their child would never do it.. It is very prevalent at all private schools and also a huge swath of the affluent kids at public. All parents of teenagers have to just do the best they can to reinforce the importance of safe choices. You can't chain them to a tree. |
| How exactly does the 'scandal' involve the President's daughters? Oh, that's right. It doesn't. |
| People still do cocaine? So passe. |
|
 My thought exactly. |
| troll stirrin the pot |

News flash: a HS kid somehwere in NW DC is using coke.... the ONLY reason you, the Enquirer or anyone else is pushing this story is becuase as you so enviously point out , "this is a rich kids school and , look what is happenning..." na nana na na......Envy is unattractive, stop veiling yours as "public concern" |
|
I thought this too. Why would anyone risk a mandatory minimum prison sentence for a party drug. Idiotic. Expensive, criminal penalties, why? I mean these kids are raised on Ritalin and Adderall until they're 18 and can take anti-depressants like normal people. What would even be the appeal of a stimulant to them for anything but performance enhancement? Crazy. Stupid, really. |
|
Well yeah, but stimulant abuse in the form of Adderall etc is a huge problem too. Are you suggesting it's better than cocaine? |
| Let's just say, nobody at Sidwell is talking about it, and it's doubtful that the White House is either. It's the National Enquirer. It's sensational. It's right up there with Kate's topless shot. The article is a joke that tries to tie together a bunch of random happenings inside and outside of the school over the last 10 years. Not news, not a concern of anyone at Sidwell. |
| Sock puppet who started the previous thread. Get off of it already, nobody cares. |
|
ITA. Seems to be pushing a few threads now. |
| OP you are a crazy person. If this post is supposed to detract parents from applying, you are wasting your time. This little stunt is not going to increase your child's chances of getting into Sidwell. You seem quite pathetic! |
|
Newsflash: OP is a jerk for starting this thread. But so are you for assuming everyone not in an elite private school is motivated by envy. |
