Does anyone have experience with Ikea crib mattresses?

Anonymous
We are on a budget, with twins. I plan to get the cribs at Ikea. Has anyone used their mattresses? If I don't buy organic (which we can't really afford), I'd rather get the mattress from Ikea than a cheap one elsewhere, because Ikea has higher environmental standards. But I heard some find their mattresses too soft.

I'm on a budget with twins, too. Just bought 2 IKEA mattresses and cribs. But I haven't used them yet so unfortunately am no help at all.

They do seem thin and one side is softer than the other, but I just decided not to overthink it too much. I'm sure we will both be fine!

I think this is the one we have: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80152872/

Works great for our kid. Babies sleep on the floor, on shoulders, in car seats, bouncers, and arms. I don't think they are very picky about their sleeping surfaces.

We have this one

I guess it does seem a little soft-the grownups in the house sleep on a very firm mattress, but our baby has no complaints.

We have this one, and it's great.

Thanks, PPs. I was looking at the Spelevink (mostly because I thought if I go cheap and buy Ikea, I should at least get the most expensive one they have), but I'm still undecided whether we should pick foam or spring. Any arguments for or against either?

10:00 - I agree that we'll probably be fine either way. Ikea wouldn't sell these all over the world if they had been shown to cause problems. Congrats on your twins!

We have twins too. We bought 1 crib and mattress at Ikea. Don't remember which ones, but they're fine. (The second crib and mattress, used, were passed on to us).

We have whatever one was the most expensive ($79 at the time, I think?) It's foam. Our baby's been sleeping on it for almost two years now. No complaints, we'd would get another in a heartbeat.

We have three mattresses, two Colgate Classica III and one IKEA. While I use the IKEA mattress when my kid is in that crib, it has always been my last choice. It is much softer and doesn't quite fit the IKEA crib it's in. I stuffed a bumper down between the mattress and the crib to make it tighter. We have to get another (!) crib mattress soon, and I'm willing to pay a bit more for the Colgate. At the time we got the mattresses we had, the cost difference wasn't enough to keep me from going with the better mattress, though I see on Amazon that the price of the Colgate has gone up quite a bit. Love the IKEA crib, BTW.

There are different crib mattresses on the market. As a mather i will recommend new parents to buy the GOTS or Certi??-PUR-US certified mattresses for their newborn infants.Must read a the crib buying guide from http://thebestbabycribs.com/best-baby-crib-mattress-reviews/

I would not get an IKEA mattress. The Baby Bargains book recommends their cribs, but says all their mattresses are too soft as you say. DH and I were there last weekend and checked them out, and I was surprised how mushy they were. Not even close to firm--none of them, which is the main criteria for an infant mattress. And it seemed
a lot of their mattresses have been recalled. I would keep looking!

We have the Sealy soybean. It's nice and wasn't that expensive. It had no smell at all and fits the crib great. It's very firm. I think it was just a bit over $100.

Too soft? Our is too hard and the kid keeps sneaking into my bed. Hard to buy a thin foam to soften it. He still sneaks into my bed for a second before waking up. I'm not even in bed, so it's not me he is looking for, it's the softer foam I have on my bog bed.
Looked it up- it's Vyssa. Seems soft when you touch, but added a foam as he clearly liked softer at 18 months.
