What exactly is a U14 regional pool mean for DCU academy? Basically the kids that got offers that were pulled? All the players they scouted? Anyone have any ideas?

“At the U14 level, D.C. United will introduce a regional pool model, selecting the most promising talent from local youth clubs and bringing them together for once-a-week elite training sessions across four locations throughout the DMV. This structure allows the club to extend its reach while maintaining a close connection to local communities and youth soccer organizations.”

What a joke.

That's how you lose all your top u14 players to other academies. Every MLS academy will be fighting to grab the top young talent in this area. Unless DC is dirty and places all of them on their list.

So in your version of this fantasy, all the families with U14 kids exceptional enough to be MLS Academy quality are going to send their sons to other parts of the country?

I can't tell if you're ignorant or trolling, top kids already have been going to other academy teams. I didn't say all, I said the top kids who the academy is willing to invest in by paying for boarding/food/schooling. Top kids as in, projected to go pro, not the pro/college or college path players.

Where is this database of players from the DMV that at 13, 14, 15 years old are known to be going Pro (Mr Nostradamus) and are all now at other academies across the country?
How high are these massive numbers of kids?

Not sure whether massive numbers of kids but it is kids who are in the USYNT pool or sniffing it.

For example, Makai Wells has a deal in place to go to the NE Revs but they have to negotiate his homegrown rights with DCU even though he is coming from Barca AZ.

We have a hotbed of talent just like Philly, ATL and NY in the DMV that should be staying home and being developed if they show promise. Way too many examples of kids going around DCUA at this point.

I believe his argument was that there are plenty of talent in their own region, why would they take any kids from out of state. Obviously he's clueless, even when plenty of posters provided proof.

In addition to not fully cooperating with DCUA, it seems as local clubs and parents in the know are actively trying to get their players into other clubs instead of DCUA.

BUT BUT BUT .. THERE'S NO DATABASE OF THESE KIDS!!!

Does a database really matter???? It's a fact that kids are leaving this area to get away from DCU. If you don't know this, then you're clearly an outsider in this soccer world. You don't need a database. You just see it with your own eyes. Nice try to deflect the issue though. There is nothing you can say, write, allege, request, demand that will make DCU a quality outfit. Moving on ..

What a joke.

A press release full of bullsh#t messages that only someone that knows nothing about DCU and it's history would accept as legitimate. The TRUTH without the .messaging garbage is:

DCU dropped it's u14 team to help offset the costs of the online school.

DCUs program isn't a residency program because it does not house the kids or board the kids. Using "residency" is DCU trying to purposefully mislead you. It offers online schooling while the kids train 2 times a day. THATS IT. A true residency program houses and feeds the kids all year round. .DCU is light years away from.this.

"Regional pool"of talent for the U14s is an absolute joke. What other successful.academy do you know of worldwide or in the US, that doesn't have their kids in house? This is just a way for them to try and soften the reality of the fact that they can't pay for the U14s because the ownership are cheap bums.

DCU is not producing pros through their academy and haven't done so in quite a while and the pipeline is weak. Largely because the academy system is weak and the kids they do have will.have minimal chances of becoming pros in their system because they don't have the coaches or infrastructure to sustain top class development of footballers.

Online school is mandatory and it costs close to 10k. Which makes DCU pay to play. The only club in the ENTIRE MLS system to take a step backwards in this way.

The entire restructuring is about saving money and that is all. The wording of the release is to try and paint of better picture of the reality at DCU.The press release could have said this and been totally accurate:

DCU DROPS U14 PROGRAM TO SAVE MONEY AND KEEPS ACADEMY SYSTEM PAY TO PLAY FOR ALL AGES WITH A MANDATORY ONLINE SCHOOL.

I read the full press release:

https://www.dcunited.com/news/d-c-united-announces-comprehensive-academy-restructure-introducing-full-time-residency-programs-for-three-age-groups

It is superb PR work. If I were not a knowledgeable parent, I would be like 💪 for DCU. However, I just met with a coach from another MLS academy and he acknowledged that Philly Union has one of the best, if not the best academy system in the U.S. Take a look at their academy system:

https://www.philadelphiaunion.com/academy/about

DC’s new U14 Pool model is what Philly Union starts at U9.

Ok, let’s not discuss the best. That is unfair. Let’s go to the next closest academy with Red Bulls:

https://www.newyorkredbulls.com/youth/

They start the “new DCU model” at age 7.

Per DCU, “this comprehensive overhaul is modeled after globally successful academy systems…” That is complete 🐴 💩.

The most important development a player has is between 8-14 and DCU is leaving that local development up to pay to play clubs.

DCU is a great option if you have no other options. Otherwise, start looking around the country and make the best decision for your child if they are talented and put in the work. The emperor has no clothes.

I agree with this. I just don't think DCU is a good option regardless. You can so so much better for your son.

DCU should honestly.be ashamed of how they wrote and positioned the release they put out on the restructuring. It is embarrassing for them to try and position everything in the way they did and a complete joke. Just further solidifies how bad this organization is from top to bottom. To say that they are modeling themselves after other world class programs is absolutely absurd. 👎👎👎👎🚮

DCU getting ripped on social media after announcement of the departure of Troy Lesesne. Basically the same points listed throughout this post.

They won't pay for players so how do you expect him to do well?

DCU is a joke from the top of the organization to the bottom. Doesn't matter whether it's the first team, academy, front office, leadership...whatever. it is a classless and poorly run organization with a bleak future.

Philly Union. A legitimate soccer academy, unlike DCU.
