Odds of Pre-E with #2 if you didn't have it with #1

Anonymous
Anyone know this? I'm just a worrier, and this is the one du jour. I didn't have Pre-E with #1, and my BP has risen a tiny bit with this one and now i'm neurotic. Doc says it's fine, but I worry anyway. Anyone know these stats?

If you did not have PE with your first, you are less likely to have it with your second. (If you had it with the 1st you then are much more likely to have it again with subsequent pregnancies).

The only caveat is whether you have developed chronic hypertension since your last pregnancy. Superimposed PE can occur in second pregnancies if you now have hih blood pressure. There is a natural dip in BP at the end of the first trimester and it starts to rise back to normal after around 20-24 weeks. It is natural to see your BP go up from the dip. Gestational diabtes can also increase the risk for developing PE.

140/90 is the threshold for PIH and PE is 140/90 with protein in your urine.
