Obamacare Medical Device Company Layoffs Begin!!

Anonymous
The private medical sector is beginging layoffs to offset the medical device tax increases imposed by Obamacare.

This is the first of many, this is not good. Perhaps the government can step in and take over the medical device industry.

From your article:

The majority of the job losses will come from Beaverton, Oregon, where Welch Allyn plans to close a factory. About 160 workers will lose their jobs when the factory that makes wireless portable patient monitors closes, Meyer said.
Production of those products will move to Skaneateles, he said. At the same time, the company will move its remaining thermometer probe cover, lamp and some of its blood pressure cuff production to its factory in Tijuana, Mexico, Meyer said. That factory opened about seven years ago, he said.

So, they are closing a factory and moving a large part of the production to their factory in Mexico, which they opened seven years ago. Obviously, this is because of Obamacare and not the standard practice of virtually every US manufacturing company over the past twenty years. It must be because of the "turmoil" caused by a 2.3% tax that hasn't been implemented yet. It couldn't have anything to do with the present turmoil in the European markets, which are having a far greater impact on global sales than anything happening in the US.

"Meyer said the actions were taken to proactively prepare the company to address the Affordable Care Act's mandated U.S. Medical Device Tax, which is scheduled to begin in 2013."

Right. So again, we have a company that is completely unpatriotic and will do anything to avoid paying taxes to the country whose infrastructure has made its very existence, not to mention its success, possible. With "patriots" like this, who needs enemies?

Yes, and he apparently started planning for it back in 2005, when they opened the factory in Mexico and started moving production there. The company owner couldn't possibly be trying to shift blame away from himself for moving US jobs overseas. I also love his example in which the entire tax is paid out of company profits entirely, since no company would ever dream of passing the cost on to the consumers. I'm sure that's how it will play out in reality as well.

Regardless of what the article says,

Do you see ANY way we can lower the cost of health care without affecting anyone who makes money doing it???? Republicans are such idiots!

They are now attacking Kaine in VA and blaming him for the potential loss of defense jobs in the state. Never mind that they are the fiscal hawks who want deep cuts and no increases in revenue. Their lame ads like this loser from Crossroads GPS only serve to demonstrate that they A) like to talk out both sides of their face, and B) will always, always preserve their pet issues and never, ever be specific about what exactly they plan to cut that will actually make a measurable difference from a budget perspective. They'll just keep on attacking the poor, sick and most vulnerable among us and stoking hate on social issues. Such a winning strategy for solving the country's real problems. NOT.

Look - the price of a "free" market system will be the loss of production jobs in the United States. Which is why I am for programs that encourage the purchase of US goods. I will always be confused of blue collar people who vote Republican. They are voting their production jobs out of the country. Congress passes the Buy American Act (which was supposed to ensure that federal contractor dollars stayed in the US), but then added so many exemptions that it became pointless.

The explanation sounds like it could have come out of a Bain Capital report to its stockholders.
