how many gals of water for irrigation system?

Does anybody have a sense of how much water their irrigation system uses? I've been clocking our water usage after a high water bill (thought due to a running toilet while on vacation). It looks like our system used about 2,000 gals! Seems outrageous, but maybe I've just not paid attention before.
