Gifted and Talent program or immersion program which?

If your child were in the immersion program would you test them to go into the gifted and talented program or whould you just leave them in the immersion program? And Why? I am thinking since the kids are adjusted to that school, have friends etc it is better to leave them. Thanks.

If the immersion program is providing the right level of challenge for your child I would leave them where they are for all the reasons you mentioned. But if your child's needs are not being met then I would move on..I guess depending how high your commitment is to immersion..

I would test them at a minimum and then decide. I am in a similair situation to you and I'm not sure what to do yet as its early but I'm going to at least see if they make it in and keep all options open so that the best decision can be made.

So if you request the testing then you don't necessarily have to move them? I thought you were applying to move them as well. Thanks.

Thats not the way I understand the application process but I can't say for sure as I don't have first hand experience. The application process states no such obligation to attend on the MCPS website and I know for a fact there are waitlists for these programs. Therefore someone has to to be leaving for whatever reason and making room for others.

You don't have to move them if you don't get in.

The test is part of the application, but you can turn down a spot if you get one.

I agree.

Our child went from immersion to the HGC and it was the right move. He really needed the challenge and similar-minded peers.
