Free stuff vs. Freedom

Allow me to usurp our resident mouth-breather and bring this to your attention:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/post/palins-freedom-v-free-stuff-line-viable/2012/09/12/b19a4af0-fcf7-11e1-8adc-499661afe377_blog.html

Caribou Barbie thinks she's found herself a new line about the election is a choice between getting "free stuff" and "freedom." She's pretty chuffed with herself and is using it repeatedly.

Setting aside the obvious fact that this is off message about the economy, something the Republicans have invested a lot to tell us during this cycle, isn't this just, well, dumber than her usual prattle?

Funny since she was briefly governor Alaska, which is the closest thing we have to an actual welfare state. They got more per capita from the federal coffers than any other, and the rest of their government runs on taxes on big oil.

Mmm. Sounds like Venezuela. Chavez and Palin have more in common than either would like to admit.

Doesn't every resident of Alaska get a big old oil revenue check from the state every year, too? Talk about lazy government. "Eh, we COULD use this money to bring about lasting change, but that sounds like work. Let's just give it to people. I'm sure they'll use it to benefit their families and their communities."

Except that Chavez gives low cost heating oil to poor people. Otherwise probably the same and they can have each other.

Yes, last year everyone got a check for $1174 in welfare, even though the Federal Government subsidizes the state (paying in more than the residents pay the Fed in taxes).
