anyone have really bad damage to molars because of night grinding/clenching?

If you've had this problem, and your dentist did something to fix it to your satisfaction, please share what he/she did. Thanks.

Fix the grinding or the damage? I've already worn my molars down quite a bit, so I finally had my dentist fit a custom biteguard. Cost $500+ but it seems to cut down on the grinding.

Sorry, should have been more clear -- fix the damage. (I got a mouthguard for nighttime, but it was too late -- too much damage had already been done.) The enamel is just about totally gone from the surfaces, and eating anything sweet, hot, or cold is painful.
